Suzuki introduces GSX-S125 at Eicma

SUZUKI has just unveiled its latest eighth-litre bike – the smart-looking GSX-S125, at Eicma.

It’s is based on the smallest member of the Gixxer family, the GSX-R125, which was first shown at the Intermot show at the beginning of October.

Like the GSX-R125, we reckon the GSX-S is sure to get young learners salivating, not least because Suzuki claims the GSX-S125 has the best power-to-weight ratio and acceleration of any bike in the sport street class, along with nimble handling and great fuel economy.

It’s powered by the same 124.4cc liquid-cooled four-stroke DOHC engine as the GSX-R125. Although Suzuki claims class-leading acceleration and power-to-weight ratio, it’s not quoting any power figures just yet, although the bike’s kerb mass is 133kg. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and the tank hold 11 litres.

The GSX-S is built around the same chassis as the GSX-R, which Suzuki says enables agile handling and good manoeuvrability in traffic. The GSX-S125’s 785mm seat height is the lowest in its class and the handlebars are 100mm higher than the GSX-R’s, to give a more upright riding position.

The suspension is basic, with a right-way up non-adjustable front fork and a monoshock in the rear.

The front of the bike gets a single two-piston sliding brake caliper and 290mm petal disc, while the rear is stopped by a single piston caliper and 187mm petal disc.

The 10-spoke wheels are clad with Dunlop D102 tyres, developed between Suzuki and Dunlop.

The ignition lock system looks like quite a potentially useful feature to thwart thieves - activating the shutter covers the ignition barrel with a metal plate, and a chuck on the key opens the shutter again.

The GSX-S125 also has Suzuki’s easy start system, a stacked LED headlight, plus an LCD instrument panel complete with gear position indicator and programmable shift light.

There’s no word on price ye, but we do know it’ll come in there colours: ‘Solid Black 50% Gloss’, ‘Stronger Red / Titanium Black’, and ‘Metallic Triton Blue’.
