BMW LOOKS set to grow its range of small capacity bikes as it adds a new GS to its roster – the G310GS, which has recently been spotted testing in Germany by Motorrad.
Using the new G310R as its platform, the G310GS borrows styling cues from the best-selling R1200GS.
It’s clear to see that the G310GS is powered by the same 313cc single cylinder engine as the G310R, which will meant that, if left unfettered, it’ll make 34hp and 20.6lb/ft torque.
The small GS also has higher bars than the G310R, plus a luggage rack and dual-purpose tyres.
Considering the popularity of its larger R1200GS Adventure, it seems logical that BMW would try to replicate that success with a smaller capacity model – one that is likely to appeal to newer or younger riders wanting an entry point into BMW adventure bike ownership.
It’s also possible that we’ll see yet more from the G310R platform in the form of a G310RR sportsbike – something which exists to some extent in India in the form of the Akula 310, which has been made using the G310R as a base, by BMW’s Indian manufacturing partner TVS.
With the G310GS clearly in late stage of testing and development, it’s highly likely that it’ll be unveiled at next month’s Eicma show in Milan.
