Revised Triumph Tiger Explorer spied

Styling and engine tweaks plus new brakes and suspension for Triumph’s R1200GS rival

THIS is the revised Triumph Explorer, spotted undergoing tests this week in Barcelona.

The spy shots show’s Triumph’s big adventure model has been given styling tweaks plus new forks and brakes.

The beaks makes a straighter line than the current models while the bodywork either side of the tank appears to extend further forward. The screen also looks to have changed, with two new small sections added either side of the main screen. A new screen frame is visible and the current model’s thumb adjusters, positioned above the indicators, are gone.  It could point to greater adjustability in the facelifted model.

The absence of indicators on the test mule clearly suggest the styling is work in progress, though.

Elsewhere, new forks carry Brembo Monoblocs brake calipers, which are already found on BMW’s R1200GS, instead of the current Tiger Explorer’s Nissins.

The updated 1215cc triple Triumph was being tested alongside an R1200GS with BMW’s Electric Suspension Adjustment. That could point to the Explorer getting the Triumph Electronic Suspension system current found on its big tourer, the Trophy.

The revised Tiger Explorer is likely to be a 2016 model.

The spy shot shows Triumph’s big adventure model has been given styling tweaks plus new forks, wheels and brakes.

New forks carry radial mounted Brembo brake calipers, a feature already found on BMW’s R1200GS, instead of the current Tiger Explorer’s Nissins.

Front and rear wheels are new, with a revised spoke arrangement.

The photographer who took the spy shot said riders also appeared to be testing throttle response, suggesting engine or fuel map changes.

He said: ‘They were comparing the Tiger Explorer and R1200GS on a section of road usually used only for suspension tests. They were also comparing the GS to an ordinary Tiger Explorer.

‘I know there will be some changes to the engine because I saw them testing throttle response on another road.’

Styling changes include the beak, which makes a straighter line than the current model's, while the radiator cowls and bodywork either side of the tank appear to extend further forward. The belly pan is new and the screen also looks to have changed, with two new small sections added either side of the main screen. The indicators are smaller and have been repositioned, and new clocks were also spotted.
