New maxi-scooter takes over from X-MAX 250 promising better performance and fuel economy

New Yamaha X-MAX 300 revealed

YAMAHA has just added to its X-MAX scooter range with this new 300cc version.

The X-MAX 300 is faster and more fuel efficient than the X-MAX 250 it replaces according to Yamaha, with styling 'inspired' by the range-topping TMAX 530, including new ‘twin-eye’ LED headlights.

It’s got increased under-seat storage space for two full-face lids, a power socket, keyless ignition and traction control.

The single-cylinder engine complies with latest Euro4 emission limits and has been developed to ‘achieve more power using less fuel’ Yamaha says, offering better acceleration and a higher top speed than the 250 but also lower consumption.

The frame is ‘all-new’ and benefits from a motorcycle-style double-clamp telescopic fork, twin rear shocks and a 15-inch wheel at the front and 14-inch at the back.

There’s a 267mm single brake disc at the front and a 240mm one at the rear, and ABS is of course standard under latest Europe-wide rules.

The traction control system comes as standard and is intended to prevent slides in wet or slippery conditions.

The keyless ignition system, as offered on the TMAX, means you can start the engine and ride away without taking the key out of your pocket.

It’s got a new instrument panel which Yamaha says is also inspired by the TMAX, with round analogue speedometer and tacho dials and a central digital display.

There are three LED headlights in total, including a central one for high beam, plus an LED wrap-around tail light.

When the under-seat space isn’t housing two helmets, it can swallow a laptop instead, Yamaha says.

The new X-MAX 300 comes in grey, white or bronze, and was revealed in these pictures from Yamaha today ahead of its show debut at Eicma in Milan on November 8.

It’s due to go on sale in March 2017, with price to be confirmed.
