New Harley trike coming

New naked trike model named

IN the UK Harley’s three-wheeled models are niche machines at best and it’s probably a safe bet to say that the £27,895 Tri Glide Ultra isn’t on your shopping list at the moment. But in America they’re a growing part of the market and Harley is about to launch another, cheaper three-wheeled model.

Once again it’s the CARB emissions listings that give away Harley’s plans, describing a new three wheeler under the name ‘Free Wheeler’ (or possibly ‘Freewheeler’ as one word, which is how Harley-Davidson trademarked the name a while ago). Harley’s trademark on the name is specifically for trikes, so we know it’s not a two-wheeled machine, and a new, unfaired trike was spied on test earlier this year.

According to the documents, the bike uses the same, air-cooled 1688cc engine as Electra Glide Ultra Classic, Road Glide, Street Glide and Road King (as opposed to the part-water-cooled version that’s used on the existing Tri Glide Ultra and the two wheeled Ultra Limited.) It’s also around 80kg lighter than the existing Tri Glide Ultra, which would put it at about 470kg.
