MV Agusta 'Rivale' planned

New street motard to get Rivale name?

MV AGUSTA has trademarked the name “Rivale” for a new motorcycle model but so far there are few clues as to exactly which bike the tag will be applied to.

Translating as “contender” or “competitor”, or simply 'rival', the name's meaning hints at competition but doesn't reveal much about the type of bike it could be applied to.

At the moment, MV is believed to have several projects under development, with an F3-based supermoto-style street bike nearly ready, designed to sit in the niche currently occupied only by Ducati's Hypermotard.

The firm's trademark on the 'Rivale' name could very easily be applied to just such a bike.

The motard, which has already had its styling finalised by Adrian Morton, who also did the F3 and F3 Brutale, is expected to appear at the EICMA show in Milan at the end of 2012 before going on sale in 2013.
