First look at the Rebello 1200

MOTO MORINI'S teaser campaign for the reborn firm's new Rebello model has come to an end with a full set of pictures of the new limited-edition machine revealed.

Celebrating the company's 75th anniversary (albeit with several breaks in production over that time) the new Rebello shares most of its underpinnings with the Corsaro, including the 130bhp 1200cc engine and tubular steel frame, but wraps it all in a stumpy, retro-inspired cafe-racer look.

An under-belly exhaust helps centralise the bike's visual and physical mass, allowing a short tail, while the bikini-faired nose and front-heavy petrol tank give it a muscular, if not terribly pretty, stance.

That tail hides one piece of innovation that's unique to the Rebello – a sliding seat hump that moves backwards to reveal a pillion seat at the touch of a button. Yep, it's an electric chair, er, saddle. See it in action at the 0:37 point of the video. That's got to be a first, albeit something that is arguably answering a question that nobody asked...

Direct from the factory, the bike is set to cost 13,900 Euros (£11,600-ish) – call it £12k once you've added registration fees and pre-delivery inspection.

I remember very similar seat hump designs on the original plans for the Motus MST (and of course several variations over the years from other makers). Just hope it can get it up when somebody wants a ride.

Silly seat idea, but otherwise a great way to reenter the market. Doing a the streetfighter/naked bike keeps them from having to compete with I4 Superbikes (on the track or in the magazines). It gives Moto Morini the opportunity to tune the engine and suspension for street use rather than track use. The non-pretzel ergonomics make it more appealing to their core audience -- well-heeled, experienced, adult riders. Bravo! I was saddened when their demise looked inevitable and happy to see that them return.

First up I like the bike a lot and would have one if I could afford it.
I would unbolt all that scaffolding hanging off the back I know its done to keep it EU friendly but it is butt ugly.
Cars have gizmo's so hey why not with the seat.

I have a Corsaro Veloce which is aesthetically more appealing than this one. This looks soo Buell, and I'm a little lost as to the rear end - it's like a garden rake hanging off the back. The seat looks a little flat as well.
Love the belly pan, the 3d badging and the pipe, although nothing sounds like a pair of side by side Termi's.

Can't wait to see one in the flesh.

I was a bit disappointed that it is yet another naked / brutale / street rod concept from Italy.

What would really help them is to look at the big sellers world-wide. In the 1200 category, this is your dual-purpose bike, led by BMW's GS. Other than that, you're running with the big dogs who all compete in WSBK - which Morini is not in a position to do.

Why not make a smaller motor (they used to do a very successful 500 v2 in the 80's) and make VOLUME bikes that can be sold in africa, China and India? That's where you make money - not selling a johnny-come-lately brutale to an overstuffed Euro market at a premium price. Who does these guys research?
