Milan: 2012 Yamaha T-Max

Yamaha update the T-Max scooter for 2012

YAMAHA have revamped their flagship T-Max scooter for 2012, unveiling the updates at the Milan show.

The popular maxi scooter has been given a larger engine, up from 500cc to 530cc. The power remains the same at 46bhp but the low-to-mid range torque is improved, peaking at 39lb/ft. Yamaha say that the torque levels are achieved by "an engine full of lighter, more efficient components, including forged aluminium pistons with optimised valve recess; a pent roof type combustion chamber with optimised squish area; and a new cam profile."

The aluminium chassis is also lighter, dropping 4kg on the weight of the outgoing model. The Japanese manufacturer has designed the latest T-Max to behave like a motorcycle with the way the weight is distributed and through the use of larger 15inch wheels.

To match the updates, Yamaha have also overhauled the styling, bringing the T-Max in 2012 with much more aggressive design in line with the manufacturer's sportsbikes. An ABS option is also available.

The new T-Max will be available in Sonic Grey, High Tech Silver, Midnight Black, and Competition White.

You can see this scooter at the NEC Motorcycle Live. In the meantime you can check out five of the best big scooters here.

Now with Belt Drive to the rear wheel, rather than chain...
Shame it didn't grow more than 30cc, and shrink more than 4Kg...
Underbelly zorst would of been nice...
Outgoing Model is on 15" wheels, so no change...
And looks like Yamaha won a box of NOS Austin Maxi / Allegro clocks on eBay!
How far over the £8,300 of the outgoing model?

I dunno what to make of all this. If IF Suzuki do go the CRT route, I reckon it would be a bit of a shame. But I can understand the reasons,...
