Really? Who can afford £14K for a plaything in this day and age?

Looking at the race spec special it still look like they wont be selling the exhaust off the prototype hmmmmm was tempted to trade in the RC8 for this but it looks cock compared to the first video we saw.

Now doubt an awesome bike, but for the few - especially at that price.

How much is 13,999 pounds in real money?

Well then, the MT-09 certainly looks like it really was the right bike at the right time...at HALF the price. As much as I'd like to own the beast this new KTM is, $22,629.38 (or the price of a new base model BMW 3 series in the US) is a bit...much. Might as well take the fairings off your RC8's and fit a new dash and headlight folks.

Ouch! 14k, so this will be a rare "Beast" then !
I had a first generation SuperDuke, the most fun bike I have ever owned, now I have a SMT, fun & practical, I think I will be keeping hold it a few years more yet.

For determining us price converting pounds to us dollars is kind of misleading. As an example a panigale is 15995 pounds but 18995 us dollars. KTM isn't just going to use a straight conversion rate in setting price. I'm guessing it will fall somewhere from 17 to 18 thousand dollars. Still pretty pricey for a naked given the cost of competition, if you consider other available nakeds as competition to this bit of madness. Maybe they will price it out of the market and have a bunch of leftovers sitting in dealers waiting to be discounted/negotiated on. One can hope.

Unfortunately...there seem to be plenty of people in this world with more than enough money to buy this.

Posted: 18/10/2013 at 08:02

Why unfortunately? If everyone was poor it would be a very grey place........... I might not be able to afford some of the finer things in life but I'm still glad there are people that are well off or the finer things would not exist.

means the rest of us can get our hands on these type of bikes in a few years if we want them.

Are they not likely to follow with a non-R budget version?

This is a high spec bike and KTM appear to have recognised that the price is a bit high for something that is just a toy - hence the 'touring' kit etc. Ok, it isn't going to take two people round Europe but providing a screen and some luggage means it could do a week round Scotland. The electronics - if reports are to believed - can tame it into a very friendly bike when you want it, so it isn't a balls-out nutter all the time.

I think KTM are refining the idea of a balls-out street bike that can be used for anything else. The SM-T was a big step in the right direction but I couldn't buy a bike that fuelled that badly. This seems to be another step towards the perfect all-rounder.

Like all these things, the hype is usually much more exciting than the real thing so I'll wait for a test ride.

A lot of money, lets hope we CAN buy all the bits that they tempted us with on the first video especially that exhaust and those wheels with out getting ripped off!! A KTM??

The bike seems to be worth the price. But it does take it out of my 'under serious consideration' price range. For which I am very grateful!

Buy 2nd hand rc8 take Fairing off... Done

if you take a look at the race model, it comes with slicks, as does some others that KTM does. The brakes are different , looks like wave rotors. And the wheels are painted orange , with the racing in white ! Has a akro like the BMW k1300s . Not the one they showed on the prototype ! Ive had tow KTM's , a 950 supermoto, and a rc8 with the full akro. I love them , and would not want one to slip through my hands . Im on the list for months now !I love the fact that theres a 15k maint span. My BMW 1200 gs has 6 k intervals . Which is bullshit ! I never had one , hear me now ' not 1 problem with either one ! And I beat the living shit outta my bikes ! That's what they are for. They break, ya fix em ! Had 17k on my 950 10k on both wheels ! cant say enough about these bikes ! LOVE EM ! CANT WAIT !
