Is this Yamaha’s new MT25?

Or MT-03, as it’s likely to become for Europe

THIS is Yamaha’s new MT25, a naked version of the fully-faired R25, according to a number of Indonesian bike websites.

It’s one of several new photos purporting to show the latest addition to the MT range undergoing tests on the road. Just as the R25 got a capacity hike to become the R3 for Europe, so the MT25 is likely to be launched here as the MT-03.

It will use the same chassis and 321cc parallel-twin engine as the recently launched YZF-R3, making 42hp and 21.8lbt.

The tail unit and swing-arm seen in our main picture closely resemble those of the R3, although a pillion grab rail has been added. Another shot, included in our gallery, shows a machine with similar clocks to the R3 but with straight bars instead of clip-ons.

Yamaha already makes the MT-125 using the same platform as the YZF-R125. Extending the strategy to the R3 would give the firm a direct competitor for Kawasaki’s new Z300, a naked version of the fully-faired Ninja 300.

Pictures claiming to show the MT25 have been published by a number of websites including Mansarpost.com, Tmcblog.com, Aripitstop.com and Iwanbanaran.com.

According to Aripitstop.com, the new model is set to be launched this summer.
