VFR1200 adventure bike to retain concept's nomenclature
HONDA has filed for a trademark on the name “Crosstourer” - confirming that it intends to use the badge for its new VFR1200F-based adventure bike.
While there was never much doubt that last year's concept bike was scheduled for production in 2012, the name did seem less likely to make it. While it gives clear links to the smaller Crossrunner, the name seemed in doubt for the production bike as it comes very close to the name of a car Honda sells in America, the Honda Accord Crosstour.
However, it seems the firm has decided to go ahead with the Crosstourer name for the new bike, filing for a trademark on the term last week, specifically asking for the rights to use it on “motorcycles and parts and fittings thereof.”
It may opt to use an alpha-numeric name in America, just as it does on the FireBlade (which has never carried that name in the states, simply being the CBR1000RR instead). Over there, to avoid confusion with the Accord Crosstour, the bike could be called VFR1200X or V4X, another badge that Honda has trademarked.
