Segway scooter uses Stirling engine technology

SEGWAY the company known for their innovative approach to alternative-fuel two-wheelers have come up with a new idea for a hybrid electric scooter.

Segway's latest idea uses a Stirling engine to partially recharge its battery pack.

Looking at the patent drawings the machine appears to be a conventional scooter with fuel tank under the seat, a rechargable battery pack in the floor and a radiator in the front.

Details are sketchy but we'll keep you updated on any news as soon as we get it.

Yes Please I want one. Pretty Please?

So long as it's no more than I have got in my bank account.

Which isnt much after Legalised Robber Gordon and the other Merchant Bankers have had 98% of it.

Do you realise that if you are a regular rate taxpayer, you go out and earn £10 and spend what you have left after tax on petrol, that out of the £10 you get 6p worth of petrol and £9.94 goes in various taxes?

So how are they going to tax electricity for vehicle use?

I expect that since swappable battery packs are going to be a non-starter (as no-one can agreewhat they need) the EU will stipulate special plugs and meters that can change you more than if you just plug into the mains at night.

(I've got an article in an old copy of British Bike mechanics that suggested using a Norton rotary to charge giant capacitors to produce huge amounts of electric power - so Segway are decades behind on that idea of a mobile generator......)

Hold on, FJSrider, don't give them ideas. That is far too clever for MPs on ridiculous wages and expenses to think of by themselves.

BTW I was at the TT pit lane when the first guy came home on an electric powered bike. I was amazed. Average speed of 87mph round a 38 mile track. You could hear the chain running on the sprockets as they went past. The riders said it was wierd, they could hear the crowd applauding.

Yeah - but the low cost for recharging 'personal' transport can't continue - they'll find a way of taxing us to death on it eventually in their never ending endeavour to force us on to 'public' transport as much as possible.

Me?  I'll be looking at solar (or wind) to recharge my EVFF for when the fuel runs out.

There was a design for a 200mph FF racer that had the funding pulled - I'd have been there if that was running.  (Did you see the Quasars and other FF's on the Island when you were over there?)

I've got some photos of the electric bikes, or at least they are in SWMBO's camera. I did see a FF now you come to mention it. Mind you, there are so many unusual vehicles there that you get a bit blase about all the MV Augustas, Benellis, Ferraris, Bentleys and so on lying around. Keys left in the ignition when they're parked and so on. What with no recognisable level of crime on the Island there is no point locking your house or car.
