First Look: 2010 Moto Morini Granpasso

Italian manufacturer forges ahead despite finanicla woes

PICTURES JUST IN of Moto Morini's 2010 Granpasso 1200.

For next year Morini have striven to increase the load capacity of the BMW GS rival: the new bike features Excel wheels, complete with tubeless tyres, different handlebars, a revised injection system and several modifications to the bodywork to allow more air to the rear Ohlins shock.

Morini are keen to let customers know their products are still available, after the company declared itself bankrupt just a few weeks ago.

News of the company's impending demise was touted by many publications; in reality Morini were using a convenient loophole in Italian financial law to avoid paying their oustanding invoices. Naughty, but true.

I had a ride on one of these having previously owned BMW GS's to see how they compared. Quite simply, it will blow a GS into the dust for acceleration and handling. They are also surpisingly well made and very comfortable unlike the GS on which i had to replace the saddle for touring as it was so uncomfortable after a 100 miles or so, even the 1200 version. It's a shame that few people will buy them because of poorly perceived reliability and residual problems. However having just covered 3500 miles in 2 weeks on a Guzzi Griso without a problem and in standard saddle comfort i will be first in the queue.
