New Monster 1200 gets power hike plus styling changes and more comprehensive electronics

Ducati Monster 1200 updated for 2017

DUCATI has updated the Monster 1200 for 2017 with a slimmer fuel tank, redesigned tail section and an electronics package derived from the 1299 Panigale.

The new bike made its public debuts at Ducati’s press conference before this year’s Eicma show.

The 1200’s increase in power comes from the latest Euro 4 compliant version of the 1,198cc  twin-cylinder 11° Testastretta engine, which makes 150hp and 93lb/ft torque - 15hp more than the previous Monster 1200 and 5hp more than the previous Monster 1200 S.  Ducati says that new throttle bodies and new twin exhaust silencers provide smoother power delivery.

The Monster 1200 now includes an inertial measurement unit (IMU) that provides information to the traction and wheelie control systems, and cornering ABS system to make it more safer and exploitable in a broader range of conditions.

Also new is the single-sided swingarm, which has been beefed up, and the bike features a new headlight and the rider foot pegs are also new, and separate from the pillion pegs.

The Monster 1200 and 1200 S will both come in red with black wheels, but the 1200 S will also be offered in a ‘Liquid Grey Concrete’ colour, with black frame and black wheels.
