BMW Scrambler definitely on the way

First of several new R nineT variants coming later this year

BMW IS definitely working on a new Scrambler-style variant of its R nineT, according to a source who has seen the new model.

Although no clear images have yet emerged, the bike is said to have had a major restyling in an effort to take sales from Ducati’s Scrambler.

The project is expected to involve US custom builder Roland Sands, responsible for the R nineT special shown in one of our pictures.

The Scrambler is one of several new versions of the R nineT which BMW is set to introduce starting later this year.

According to a well-known spy photographer, BMW is currently testing a prototype in a secured proving ground. From the state of the early test mule, he said he expected to wait at least two months before getting a chance to photograph one on the road.

‘It will take two or three months until BMW has final pre-production bikes,’ he said. ‘Maybe then it'll be a bit easier to catch this thing because as far as I know so far they're only driving this on a secured proving ground.’

Even a BMW source seemed to hint at the machine’s existence when he said: ‘The scrambler has not been officially confirmed.’
