BMW announces updates to R1200 range

BMW has announced some technical updates to its liquid-cooled boxer-engined bikes for 2017.

Bikes in the R1200 range – the R1200RT, R1200GS/Adventure, R1200R and R1200RS are receiving supplementary technical changes to make them compliant with Euro4 noise and emission regulations. As part of the Euro4 changes, all those models will be fitted with sidelights.

The technical changes are as follows: the addition of a judder damper on the transmission output shaft, a revised selector drum actuator, transmission shafts and transmission shaft bearing. An OBD (on board display) indicator lamp has also been added to the display to meet Euro4 requirements. In addition to the changes mentioned above, changes to specific models are as follows:

R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure:
BMW has also revised the design of the instrument panel on the on the R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure. As of model year 2017, the colour Ocean Blue metallic matt is no longer available for the Adventure.The ‘Triple Black’ GS, in a nearly all-black finish (pictured above), also returns to the range as a special model.

BMW R 1200 RT:
The R 1200 RT will not only be supplied in new paint finishes (‘Carbon Black metallic’ and ‘Alpine White’) and its range of optional extras gets expanded to include the banking-optimised ABS Pro and the dynamic brake light (both in conjunction with the Riding Modes Pro option).The paint finishes Ebony metallic, San Marino Blue metallic are no longer available.

BMW R 1200 R:
The R1200R gets the same changes as the R1200RT and a new colour – ‘Racing Red’, while the ‘Cordoba Blue’ and ‘Light White’ finishes are being discontinued.

BMW R 1200 RS:
The R1200RS also gets ABS Pro and the dynamic brake light and the ‘Granite Grey metallic matt’ colour scheme is no longer available.
