Shots purported to show new KTM-related single
THESE rather strangely-edited pictures (courtesy of Powerdrift.com) are claimed to show the new Bajaj Pulsar 375 – the Indian firm's first machine to be based around the engine of the new KTM Duke 390.
Originally expected to be a naked bike, like the Pulsar 200, the shots reveal a fully-faired machine, suggesting Bajaj (which is KTM's largest shareholder) could beat the Austrian firm to the punch in putting the new single into a sports bike. KTM is working on a similarly-powered machine to go under the “Moto3” name, cashing in on the publicity from the firm's efforts in the race series of the same title.
The shots reveal a slightly fussily-styled fairing with projector headlights reminiscent of the Yamaha R1 and Buell XB9R. What little of the chassis that can be seen shows conventional, right-way-up forks and a single front disc, suggesting that while the bike will be Bajaj's flagship in India, it will still be built to a budget.
Bajaj has, in recent months, dropped hints at an intention to spread its wings further beyond the Indian market. With new EU licensing laws from this month introducing the new A2 class for sub-47bhp machines, a sporty 375cc single with a cheap-as-chips price tag could be a recipe for success over here.
The shots themselves have come via the FaceBook page of an as-yet-unlaunched Indian cars-and-bikes website, Powerdrift.
Of course, over here KTM's own take on the idea will be a more significant machine, and is likely to sport higher-spec kit in line with that of the Duke 390 along with a more subtly-stylish appearance taking hints from the firm's Moto3 race bike.
