VW linked to Ducati buyout

German car giant seeks to purchase Italian motorcycle brand

GERMAN car company VW has said that it wants to buy Ducati!

VW top man Ferdinand Piech already tried to take control of Ducati back in 1985 when the company was in financial crisis.

The news comes just a month after VW announced that it was in talks with Suzuki to buy a 10% stake in the company in order for Suzuki to produce small vehicles that were branded as VW.

Piech, the grandson of Ferdinand Porsche (the bloke who penned the Beetle for that Nazi geezer with a funny 'tache) has grown VW to have the overall control of companies like Lamborghini, Bugatti, Bentley, Audi and Seat.

The stumbling block, as reported in Italian finance press, could be the political implications of such an iconic, successful, modern Italian brand like Ducati falling into German hands.

So if the moves all happen that could mean a Ducati/Suzuki merger overseen by VW who will bring Lamborghini and Bugatti technology to the next wave of Superbikes.

Blimey, just imagine that...a two-wheel Veyron!

There is some incorrect info here.  VW is not and never was talking about a merger with Suzuki.  The only thing even close to that is VW was considering is purchasing a ten percent stake in Suzuki for the purpose of having Suzuki manufactor small and mini size vehicles to be sold under the VW brand.

That in no way constitutes a merger, rather a joint venture for the purpose of marketing small cars in Europe.
