Triumph’s record year

British firm supplied nearly one in five new bikes over 500cc in the UK last year

TRIUMPH is celebrating a record sales year after supplying nearly one in every five new bikes over 500cc in the UK in 2014.

The British firm was the top seller of bikes over 500cc in the UK, taking an 18.7% share of the market, a rise of 8% compared to 2013.

Triumph’s range appears to have positioned it well to benefit from the growth of interest in retro models, with sales of the Bonneville Scrambler up 84%.

The adventure range has also performed well, with sales of the Tiger 800XC up 24% and the 1200 Explorer XC up 54%.

In total the firm sold 8,128 bikes in the UK last year.

It follows figures released on Friday showing 10% sales growth across the industry in the UK last year.

Triumph's UK general manager Rick Cawley said: ‘The industry is undoubtedly experiencing its most successful seasons in over five years, a true reflection of the burgeoning confidence in the UK economy and demonstrates that riding is regaining popularity as a leisure pursuit, as well as a stylish option for the urban commuter.’
