KTM X-Bow responsible for 33.1 million euro deficit

AUSTRIAN BIKE manufacturer KTM has recorded an 81.4 million euro loss for the last financial year, the company has revealed.

“The last 12 months have been hard for the whole industry and KTM has suffered like every other manufacturer,” said KTM UK managing director Shaun Sisterson. “But we have learned some lessons and made suitable adjustments to give us a firm foundation for the future.”

Despite the depressing figures, Sisterson points to a few of the underlying details to explain the company's massive loss.

“Eighty per cent of the published loss can be accounted for in one-off restructuring costs, which includes the writing off of 33.1 million euros of development and tooling costs associated with the X-Bow car project.

“For 2010 KTM expects a slight increase in overall sales with the introduction of the new motocross and 125cc street models and we expect a positive operating result for the business year. As we approach the end of our first financial quarter the early signs are that this is achievable.”

Earlier this week, Visordown reported the news that Japan's motorcycle export market was down over 50 per cent.

Having recently bought a very heavily discounted Super Duke I am getting very worried. As part of the deal I was supposed to get a load of extras. What KTM called their "Road Kit" - Carbon bits, tank bag, gel seat etc. After 3 months this shows no sign of showing up. KTM in the US don't seam to know anything. In addition KTM seem to have stopped importing bikes in the US. There are no 2009 or 2010 KTMs in the US. It seems to me like they have given up? I love my Super Duke, but I am begining to think I should have bought a Speed Triple instead. Just for the dealer support and resale.

KTM has a full lineup for 2010 including new models, they also are focusing on buliding their dealer network here in the US.  They also have lowered prices on premium tier models like the RC8 and RC8 R. Your heavily discounted SD is a result of making room for the 2010's

FYI, a speed triple vrs a superduke???? are you kidding me? They are both nakeds and thats about it, bring a triple out on the track against a superduke both stock... good luck
