Audi look set to buy Ducati

Audi plans to announce the acquisition of Ducati next week, having completed a due diligence assessment of the Italian motorcycle maker, so claim Autonews.com.

Volkswagen, Audi and Investindustrial declined to comment.

A successful deal would fuel Audi's long-standing rivalry with BMW and add expertise in high-revving light engines to VW's engineering portfolio, which ranges from cars and heavy trucks to ship engines.

Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera also reported on Wednesday that a deal between Ducati and Audi was expected to be signed next week, citing no sources.

Audi have the right to negotiate exclusively until April 15, after which Investindustrial is free to talk to other potential buyers.

Cool! Now maybe we will get that all-wheel drive Ducati Due.

Hopefully it means that the only difference it will make is that that ducati's will be more reliable!
I'm holding off buying now, till first audi-quality-controlled ducati rolls off the line!!!

This is good news for Ducati & VW. My favourite bikes with the most reliable cars. Anything that ensures I can still buy a Multistrada when I'm in my fifties works for me. My 1000DS is the most unreliable bike I've owned, but it's also the best engine I've used. Expect to see Desmo valves on a Fiat Arbrath sized VW.

I would like to know what this means for the future of Ducati's motorsports efforts.
