WAYNE Gardner, 57, and his 18-year-old son Remy, who competes in Moto2, are both in prison in Japan after last weekend’s Japanese MotoGP.

Austrailian GP legend and 1987 500cc champion Wayne, landed himself in jail on Sunday on suspicion of assault after an alleged road rage incident that took place at 8am Sunday morning, as he and Remy were arriving at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit.

Gardner was said to have shoved around three Japanese men and taken hold of their collars during traffic problems that morning. He was arrested soon after the incident but denies assault.

Remy Gardner is reported to have been driving at the time of the incident, and was subsequently arrested on Monday for failing to possess the required International Driving Licence required to legally drive in Japan.

Should they wish, the Japanese police are able to hold suspect for up to 23 days without charge, which raises the possibility that Remy will miss the next race at Philip Island in Austrialia this weekend.
