POLICE figures show that injury-causing road accidents in Wales fell by 622 last year – a reduction of 11% but there has been ‘little progress’ in efforts to cut serious motorcycle crashes.
That figure counts towards a 21% step closer to the Welsh government’s target to reduce road injuries by 40% by 2020.
The Welsh government’s target is to reduce serious motorcycle crashes by 25% by 2020. Compared to 2015, last year the number of motorcycle casualties on Welsh roads decreased by 10% from 693 to 662, which only contributed a 1% step closer to that 25% target.
Combined with cyclists, motorcycles only account for 2% of traffic on Welsh roads, but 16% of all casualties.
