HARLEY-DAVIDSON is voluntarily recalling 251,000 motorcycles worldwide over potential brake failure.
The recall affects CVO Touring and VSRC models equipped with ABS and manufactured between 2008 and 2011.
It includes 175,000 bikes in the US.
A US recall notice issued on Wednesday says that 'deposits may form on components within the brake system if the DOT 4 brake fluid is not replaced for a prolonged period of time beyond the 2-year maintenance schedule specified in the Owner’s Manual.'
Although the issue appears to stem from failure to comply with maintenance recommendations, 'the consequent sudden and complete loss of brakes, without warning, is a concern,' the notice says.
Harley-Davidson is set to contact owners from February 12 and offer to flush and replace brake fluid free of charge to remedy the issue.
