But Guy Martin has been devoting himself to another of his favourite pastimes: tinkering with big machines.
The Lincolnshire man has built a replica of a World War I tank which he plans to drive up Lincoln High Street for his latest TV show.
TV personality Martin was spotted in the city yesterday afternoon with four other people apparently measuring to see if the tank would fit.
The five were holding a rope in a square formation as they walked past a Greggs Sandwich shop.
The 35-year-old is building a replica of a Mark IV British tank, introduced in 1917, for a new documentary on the development of the machines, Lincolnshire Live reports.
He also visited the White Hart Hotel, in which plans were hatched for the first battle-going tank in 1915.
He plans to return to Lincoln on Remembrance Day, November 11, when he will drive his tank along the High Street to the city’s war memorial.
