Man arrested for stealing motorbike - bit-by-bit

Police in China arrest crafty factory worker after five-year theft

POLICE IN CHINA have charged a man for stealing a motorcycle - part by part from the factory where he worked.

The assembly line worker told Police he'd always wanted his own motorbike but could never afford one on the lowly wages he received.

Over a five-year period the man whipped parts from the warehouse. Once complete he began to use the bike to commute to and from work.

But, luck wasn't on the light-fingered worker's side; he was stopped by police who discovered that he had no driving licence or paperwork.

The man admitted theft and was fined the equivalent of £440, put on probation for a year, and ordered to return the complete motorcycle to the factory.

That'll teach him.

That stuff has been going on for ages. It's a shame he got caught.

it is a shame. theres so much about china that we didnt see on the olympics television broadcasts. 440 pounds? i suppose if he cant pay for a motorbike -the type of motorbikes they use in china, he will never be able to pay for the fine. i say keep the bike and loose the job or the other way around.

i think the factory should supply all their employees with the bikes they make, they would be on time all the time and they will basically be advertising the things! sense really

Mint. Pity he was caught, really.

I know that over here Triumph offer discount prices and custom paint on employes bikes, with priority parking at the factory if they decide to ride into work. Makes a lot of sense, removes (or at least drastically reduces) the temptation to smuggle out some trick bits for your ride and creates a great impression of the factory for visitors, with a fleet of tricked up workers bikes right by the entrance. Think the Japanese do something similar? (I recon the Italians must do- if you made Ducatis for a living you'd just have to own one, surely? )

You reckon? They're the ones who know how bad the build quality, electrics, gearbox etc are

Flo

If you built one for yourself, the quality would be pretty good, the electrics would work fine in Italy (where it never, ever rains )...

...got me on the gearbox, though .

rpt

they get 3 each.

one for riding, another for show and the last one for spares.

And they rotate them.

That Johnny Cash song's got a lot to answer for. Probably came out in China about 6 years ago I reckon.

yeah its a shame, the factory might find people take more pride in their work if they were allowed their own bikes.

dont get me wrong, i think bike thiefs are scumbags in general, but this guy sounds just like a man who wanted a bike so badly and waited so patiently to get it. he probably would pay for it if it was within his reach. my heart goes out to him!
