Flying bike/car/helicopter/thing...

...the logical next step?

OK, so they're calling it a 'flying car' but since it leans through corners like a bike we figured it was worth showing you anyway.

What's surprising about the PAL-V prototype is that, five years after emerging as a set of pie-in-the-sky computer-generated images and dodgy sketches, it's turned into a real, working machine. Despite the video's upload date, it doesn't appear to be a joke, either.

Looking like a cross between a Peraves Ecombile, a Carver One and James Bond's Little Nelly gyrocopter, it's powered by a 230bhp engine (we're guessing it's an aircraft motor, as the firm hasn't revealed many details) and from the look of this video is perhaps the coolest grown-up toy ever created. Want one.

It's a convertible autogyro with a closed cockpit. So what?
Carver One was a remarkable ground vehicle, this is just a "hybrid", an airplane with some extended ground usability.
A helicopter or a hang glider is a better big boy's toy, if we are talking about flying.

I imagine the kind of people who’d be interested in this think along the lines of the die hard motorcyclists who prefer a street legal dirt/off road bike…ride to the fun spots! (…wonder if I could tow my track bike with this little “car.” ;) I like the “no need for renting cars” & “no need to rent hanger space” aspects of the roadables!

Could be a good market for wealthy commuters - take off from near home, land as close as possible to work, then drive the rest of the way. The $64,000 question is the selling price - probably more than that amount?
