Felled tree lands on biker

Trunk in charge

A CONNECTICUT man had a lucky escape yesterday when a felled tree landed on top of him as he was riding his bike. Miraculously, Jim Nassetta escaped injury but his classic Moto Guzzi did not fare so well.

Nassetta was on his way home to feed his dog when the tree came down on him. The tree was being felled by an inexperienced resident when the guide-rope broke, landing it in the middle of the road, on top of Nassetta instead of in the home-owner's yard.

'It fell right in front of me,' he said. 'I tried to get around it and it collapsed around me. I went over the handlebars, and a power line was hanging right by my head. At this point, I feel pretty good other than the fact that it was an unrestored vintage motorcycle that's now trash'.

Jim Nassetta
The bike is nearly repaired. I suffered more physical damage than was apparent that day but I am on the mend I hope. The guy that dropped the tree was never cited by local police but I am not letting this slide. I have been riding for 40 years and as far as I'n concerned, if you die on a bike it's your own fault. I have revised this thinking after this incident. An idiot with a chain saw can take you out in a heartbeat,
