What the scene might have looked like, probably...

ARSONISTS in Devon found another use for a Volvo earlier this week, when they used stolen one to set fire to a speed camera.

Emergency services were called to Peverell, Devon, in the ealry hours of Monday morning after a blue Volvo 740 had been parked directly below a speed camera and set alight.

It's reported arsonists stacked tyres on top of the car to really get things going.

Local firefighters extinguished the blaze, which completely destroyed the car and melted the camera.

Alan Mobbs, a spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police:

"This was extremely dangerous when you consider the fuel in the vehicle and the electrics inside the speed camera," Mr Mobbs said.

"The fire could have easily spread and created an even more dangerous scenario."

A terrible display of todays society and the lows to which they have fallen.

How any of you could condone such an act is beyoned me.

I ask the culprits to make themselves known to us all so that we may all buy them a round of drinks and ask them to keep up the good work - roll out the idea nationally maybe???

I would hope that this incident might be instructive to governments everywhere, not just in the U.K.  To wit: perhaps you should not think of the electorate as a bunch of sheep to shorn regulary and rounded up whenever you feel like eating lamb chops for dinner.   You know, it occurs to me that South Africa gets along just fine with posted speed limits in the towns and cities and unrestricted travel on restricted and rural roadways.  In fact, I believe they enjoy the same decadent freedom in Argentina.  I've got over 100,000 indicent-free miles on motorbikes.  How about if I decide what a safe speed might be?

I'm confused

Some little scroats nicks a car.....

 but

its resulted in one less volvo on the road

&

1 less speed camera

I think its a good thing, but should we lock them up for theft or give them a medal for public service
