Race organisers ban top-flight superbike in politically-driven move
ORGANISERS of the Canadian Superbike Championship have announced they are banning all Yamaha YZF- R1 models from the racing series.Professional Motorsports Productions' move comes after Yamaha Canada announced in November that they were withdrawing from Canadian Superbike series. Furthermore, race organisers have also announced no 2010 Yamaha models will be allowed to race in any of the series’ classes, though due to their popularity, Yamaha YZF-R6 models from 2009 or earlier will be eligible.“Our biggest concern is the privateer or club level racer with existing Yamaha equipment,” says Colin Fraser of series organisers, Professional Motorsports Productions. “The vast majority of Yamaha riders utilize 600s, and we agreed that it was in everyone’s best interests to allow these existing machines to continue to compete.”Mmm. Sour grapes, or what?
With any luck, someone will partner with the FIM to bring proper Superbike racing to both Canada and the United States. A unified series would be ideal. As it stands though, both countries have a collection of clowns running (ruining) the respective series.
Thankfully, we can see the European series on cable

Let me get this straight........Yamaha factory team said they were withdrawing from the series so the organisers then banned ALL R1s and post 2009 R6s from privateers and non-factory teams??? WTF!!!
Are they on self-destruct or what? They are acting like a little kid. This sort of action has got to be the fastest way to ruin a race series. What sort of message does this send to other manufacturers? So does anyone think this is more likely or less likely to make Yamaha want to re-join the series...Hmmmm I wonder.
