Yamaha back Valentino's WSB bid

Yamaha MotoGP team manager says the company will help Rossi in World Superbike clash

YAMAHA MOTOGP Team bigwig Davide Brivio says the company is backing Valentino Rossi in a bid to compete against Troy Bayliss in a World Superbike round in 2009.

Over two weeks ago Visordown.com reported how Rossi has challenged 2008 WSB champ Troy Bayliss to come out of retirement for a one-off showdown in a World Superbike race this year. It's reported Losail Circuit in Qatar would be an ideal venue for the clash.

"It's not easy, but the racing department is doing everything possible to sort out two R1 bikes for Rossi," Brivio told Tuttosport.

"The problem is that the bike is a new project, so everything is a lot more difficult. We'll see whether it's possible in the end to allow Valentino to get his wish."

Rossi wants it, Yamaha want it - come on Bayliss - get yer leathers out!

yes but the yamaha would have to be competetive the ducati certainly is.

Better to put them both on the same bike from a different manufacturer ??? tho im sure yamaha and ducati might not be too impressed.

But its the only true way to be fair to both riders so they can show its all down to skill

I'm not sure I get all the hype really. It might be good to watch but then again it might not be. Rossi would be riding a bike alien to him prob on a track motogp don't go to so could be a damp squid, a bit like putting Bayliss on the M1 in Motogp where its likely he would do very little.I'd love there to be a nice battle but its unlikely.

Then again I'm not sure I get the Bayliss hype either, he's not even the most successful WSB man and is no comparision overall to Rossi. As I've said before Bayliss raced Rossi for 3 seasons and came nowhere except in one wild card race. He lost titles to Toseland and Edwards, who also won the same amount of titles as Bayliss. Rossi has won 125, 250, 500, 990, and 800 titles and is the most successful GP rider of all time ever.

Still nice little earner for the pair of em so fair play.

they actually want to do it at qatar as it's a circuit they both know.

Remember rossi didn;t know the blade he rode to victory at the Suzuka 8hour when he rode for repsol honda and he blew them away.

Never, under any circumstances, underestimate rossi. I didn;t used to like him and i cirtainly don;t idolise him like half of the worldwide biking community. I much prefer edwards. Have done since the 2002 final round with that battle with bayliss. Carlberg don't make bike races.... but if they did it'd be that one..... and their racer would be rossi.
