Rea's finger after the accident
|
IRELAND'S Jonathan Rea has made a bold move not to have his finger operated on after sustaining horrific injuries to his right hand ring finger, during the World Supersport race at the weekend.
Sources say, Rea has been in consultation with surgeons and has been told he has one of two choices: to have surgery to repair the torn tissue and ligaments, which will put the Ten Kate rider out of racing for at least four weeks, or to continue racing with the wound left open. He must also take a heavy dose of antibiotics and painkillers. Either way the finger will be permenantly distorted.
Rea has opted for the second choice but has been told it carries a significant risk. He must keep the wound and dressings spotlessly clean as any tissue infection could mean the finger would need amputating. The Irishman has also been told that if the bone gets infected he may suffer more serious consequences.
In short, Rea has chosen racing over his finger. Somehow, I can't see a premiership football ponce doing the same. Can you?
