WSB: Vermeulen tipped as Bayliss replacement

Paddock gossip is rife over Aussie's return to WSB grid

Posted: 16 June 2008
by Visordown News

REMEMBER WHERE you heard this first - the hot rumour right now amongst the WSB paddock inhabitants is that none other than Suzuki stalwart Chris Vermeulen is being widely tipped as the replacement at Ducati for Troy Bayliss.

Bayliss has already announced that he will retire at the end of this year whether he wins the title or not, meaning that Ducati has a problem in who will replace the multiple world champion.

We don't believe that Chris would sacrifice a ride in MotoGP for WSB for one moment, there's no doubt he will end up back there one day but we reckon this move isn't going to happen for a long time yet.

he might as well he's done bugger all other than his good wet race performance, well apart from moan about that big ruff James Toesland picking on him......

A friend and I were talking about this last night and we both think the Ride will or should go to Shane Byrne.

They really need to sign a confirmed week-in week-out race winner / podium rider at that level to replace Bayliss. I'm not so sure Byrne is that man.

i would love to see a top uk rider get a seat at ducati

just dont think it will happen next year, unless they get rid of fabrizio, and run one of our guys as the second rider,

eg when hodgson (first time round) was in foggys team, & toseland was supposedly second to laconi

maybe byrne / camier 2nd to a big name, for a years learning circuits etc

i'd sooner sign vermuelen than byrne, younger and imo far more talented.

i used to like vermuelen, but the whinging and moaning has done my head in

The problem is there arn't make people who can just on the Ducati and consistantly win Xaus, Biaggi are cases in point. Shane Byrne in BSB is a different league to the others.

he is a fucking aussie tim, whinging and serving drinks are what they are good at.some of 'em ride bikes ok.

Unless Vermin is VERY frustrated by being mid pack, it would surely take a very special offer from Ducati to tempt him back to WSB.

biaggi isn't fit at the moment.a fit biaggi would run rings around byrne.

He is a biggish fish in a smaller pond though.

The ducati has a bigger advantage in BSB due to the nature of the tracks. He struggled to consistantly beat Tom Sykes, a class rookie last year on equal machinery.

I don't think he's as good as he thinks he is.

Troy Corser? Or the Haga dude?
Posted: 17/06/2008 22:15

Ducati Pete

I reckon Haga will stay where he is.

Corser to take the big bucks at BMW?

Posted: 17/06/2008 22:19

The BMW bike looks very interesting? Do you think it will perform? Compete?
Posted: 17/06/2008 22:26

Ducati Pete

The first year will be a huge task.

Not only will they need good feedback from the riders but they will have to put a good team around them. I would imagine budget won't be a problem, how fast the factory can react to the team's need maybe though.

BIPOSTO

As long as they don't get a "Typical BMW Rider?" on it, they might do ok, and build from there.

What are you currently riding dude?

My second one of these:

Come to think of it, with a additional American backed Ducati team, BMW and, if they get their arse together, Aprillia there are plenty of interesting rides to be had.

All purpose tool? (Not you Pete) The bike?

What made you go for that?

Posted: 17/06/2008 22:46

Ducati Pete

I don't really ride it on the road. I did use it for the jolly boys trip to the Pyrenees in o6 though, and in the mountains it was awesome.

I like it cos it's not another plastic race rep, it's got top quality OE components, and above all it's fantastic fun to ride.

It's a fantastic track tool, suffers a bit down long straights, as much down to lack of aerodynamics as lack of power.

BIPOSTO
Nice, and like you say, very different

Marko

Byrne's had his chance and now is too old to start a decent career, just let him stay in the UK and take the money rides.

And as for British riders, well i don't think any of them are worthy of top rides at world level next year, all the young guns keep getting beaten by a mid 30's failed MotoGP rider, who turn was getting beaten week in week out by the pair of Johnny Foreigners who were in BSB last year.

So no one really stands out at the moment, maybe in 2 - 3 years time we might have a decent world class rider in a simarlar vein to toseland, but until they can clean up at home, we don't want them embarssing us at world level by riding round at the back of the field.

Shane Byrne to replace bayliss suggest a few members, who are these folk, must be Shane and his mates. I have nothing against Shakey but to suggest that he could ride the Ducati  week in,week out and challenge for podiums, come on behave.

AlmightyDutch

I think its about time Craig Jones moved up and tried WSB. He's not gonna win the WSS on his current bike but a young motivated lad to go and have the Ducati treatment would ensure years of fruitful results.

what about hodgeson i want him to have the ride
