WSB: Rossi v Bayliss - the latest

Xerox Ducati boss says Qatar race it's doubtful as it's 'too close'

XEROX DUCATI WSB team boss Davide Tardozzi has said that even though both riders want to race other, he doesn't believe the much-hyped possible tussle between Valentino Rossi and Troy Bayliss.

The pair could meet up on track at the March 14 round of the WSB championship in the Qatar round, both riders have publicly said that they are interested in the meeting which would see Rossi take to the track on a World Superbike spec Yamaha R1 for the first time competitively.

Tardozzi, who has managed Bayliss for the most successful part of his career, said: "Even if Valentino has made these declarations that he wants to race Troy in a WSB race I do not believe that a duel is possible. Ducati needs time if this race is to go ahead and the Qatar round might be too close."

It's reported Bayliss says he wants a £1 million to race Rossi.

So nobody has given it the big, fat no just yet. Watch this space.

Maybe we could pass the hat around. I think it would be more exciting if they used the same machines and had two races. They could even swap machines for the second race.

Last time they met Bayliss kicked all the MOTOGP paddocks arses.

So does Rossi want revenge.

Revenge? No, he just wants to make sure he's garunteed at least one real race next season in case Yamaha give him a bike as fast as Caseys .

I'd love to see this happen, but why does everyone focus on Bayliss' one off race win on the Ducati. He did bugger all else in 3 years of racing for Honda / Ducati.

at last someone speaks sense.  bayliss was great on a superbike but get real! in the bigger picture would he even make the top ten in the last twenty years?

Do you mean me - talking sense.

Yes, it's taken until the last week of the year, but I've finally done it woohoo.

I still don't get the whole Bayliss is the best hype.

I think it's the WSB vs MotoGP thing, rather than Bayliss himself. My dad's bigger than your dad, Bayliss is better than (fave MGP rider) 'cause he spanked them all...With a better developed bike, better circuit knowlege and the #1 slot in the factory team, who knows? What if is a great game, numerous Brit riders didn't get the opportunity that he managed to do precisely didly with, could they have done better? Hislop, Foggarty, MacKenzie (to name just three) all beat the best in the world at one stage or another, but none of them took the top prize...How many of those would place top twenty? On the flip side, WSB hasn't exactly been a happy hunting ground for some of the best MGP riders around. How high did Max place?

I'd love to see the two race again, just because they would race, they both love the challenge as much as winning itself. And maybe that's the whole Bayliss appeal- the rest of the field are either anodyne or slightly crazy, there are very few true racers at the top of either series.

Fair points.

Both Checa and Biaggi have struggled, but I think they see it more as a top up to their pensions

fuck him the aussie bartending bastard.

thats just my opinion of course.

That £1 mil couldn't hurt the pension fund much either . I'd love to see it, but I don't think it's a go.  Not so much from the riders as everyone else around them, teams, factorys, sponsors. I've been wrong about more important things though ...
