SHANE BYRNE will get Alex Polita as his Sterilgarda team-mate for 2009 World Superbikes.

The 23 year-old from Jesi has earned his promotion out on the track, following a Superstock championship in which he has been one of the front-runners.

All this managed to convince team manager Marco Borciani to give Polita an opportunity to return to the top production-racing category, following a brief but unfortunate period in 2007 in which he was sidelined by a broken collarbone he suffered in the Donington race.

Polita will race the new Ducati 1098 RS09 and will take to the track for the first time on the 2008 machine together with his team-mate, the week after the Portimao round on November 2.
