HOT rumour from the WSB paddock this morning is that Lorenzo Lanzi is to take over the ride currently vacant while Regis Laconi's fractured spine is repaired.

The former Xerox Ducati rider is believed to has concluded contract agreements with Daniele Carli, the manager of the DFX Corse Ducati sqaud. An official announcement about the deal, which will run from now until the end of the season, is expected tomorrow (Saturday).

Laconi fractured his spine in two places (C3 and C5, in the neck) after a huge highside at Kyalami on Friday. An initial operation to plate the bones has been hailed a success by surgeons working on the Frenchman who will be in recovery for the next few months.
