WSB: Honda seek Michael Schumacher for 2009

"All he has to do is ask" says Honda's European big-wig

Schumacher impressed Honda bosses at Portimao

FORMER F1 GOD Michael Schumacher could be racing in next year's World Superbike Championship, Honda's European racing boss has said.

Honda are interested in acquiring retired seven-time world champion after the German impressed team bosses in superbike races this year. Schumacher also recorded respectable times on Troy Bayliss' world championship-winning Ducati in tests in Portugal last week.

"Michael is convinced that the German championship is right for him at the moment," Honda Racing's Carlo Fiorani was quoted as saying by Friday's La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"For the moment he has not asked us to race in the 2009 world championship. But if he wants to, there is a way for him. All he has to do is ask us."

The rumours have been negated by 39-year-old Schumacher, who said earlier this year that he wasn't interested in a motorcycle racing career.

I have to say that I dislike him immensely, but you have to admire his talent.  I think he could probably do it too.  I wonder if he ever will?

John..

I'd like to see him do it. it's been said for a long time that car racers couldn't race bikes competatively, but bike racers could.

He's getting on a bit though, so who here would bother if they were a 7 times Formula 1 champ and multi millionaire?

If he can cut in amongst the fast boys then get him in there - I don't think he would want to do it if he didn't think he had a chance of being near the front.

It doesn't come down to any of that stuff - it comes down to being competitive - hes a multiple world champion because he has the talent AND the desire to win which is just as important.

To go out and win 7 championships you have to have the drive to want to go and beat everyone else out there - to prove that you are the best, and maybe now he wants to have a crack at top level bike racing to see just how good he is on a bike - and if I was in his position then I would be doing the same

will his teammate and most of the midfield get out of his way , so he can win????

Posted: 14/11/2008 at 15:21

Nah fair play to him, i have nothing but respect for him and what he has acheived. no matter how he did it, its still 7 World Championships.

Not to sure if he deserves a Honda ride but the publicity he would bring would be awesome. Wacth this space i say.

no chance.he might be fast in german sb.but put him against the wsb lot and i think he might look like he's going backwards.if he's having fun with what he's doing now then fair play to him. i dont think he will do it but he might turn up as a wild card next year at his home round.

nonsense,he's good but not good enough to be in wsb. the only reason he would get a ride is because of his money and the sponsorship he would bring with him.

That has been said many times.  I reckon it's utter tosh.  It would be great to see someone from the car racing world prove it too.  I think pretty much any of the top guys can adapt.   Many car racers ride bikes as a hobby anyway.  For example Colin McRae was pretty handy on a bike so I heard.

Why should he fook off, and he has retired hasn't he?

+1 - Fast on a bike  as he is, compared to every single poster on here,  I don't believe he'd ever be fast enough to get into  top 10 in WSB and that's why he won't entertain it

Not a bad life though - paid tens of millions to blatt round the best tracks in the world in the best cars in the world and then quit at 37. At which time every top bike manufacturer then throws their Superbikes at you to have fun on.

Jealous, much

wonky faced german cock should stay retired instead of thinking he can play out with the big boys

Eggzackerly, nail-on-head and all that.

Life is for living eh?

Alan Haskins

I admire the bloke (now he's a biker).

He already commands a god-like status, so could you imagine the commotion if he did line up on a wsb grid? I'm all for it, it'd be great for the sport. Shame it'll never happen.

Posted: 15/11/2008 at 09:08

Flo

You sure Al? He's helping develop BMWs superbike, which might explain Hondas interest- spoiling their effort before it's really up and running (God I'm cynical ). If he gets the bike (and more importantly the team) up to an acceptable standard, who's to say they won't let him ride? Some decent results in a domestic series might just persuade him to play with the big boys, factor in the amount of sponsorship he could bring on board and a top flight ride isn't an impossibility. He's not carrying the wounds that years of competition inflict on riders, he's fit and there are riders of a similar age to him who have raced or are racing at the top level.

I for one would just love to jeer and boo the big chinned git on.

Fair play to him.

I think tin top drivers have a better chance at taking on bike racing when they are older. They have been racing thngs that have less chance of injuries compared to someone like Stalker who is carrying 20 years of bike related injuries.

Most series shuey has had in recent years was a broken leg and that was about 6 years ago.

He will still be in good physical sape, so I say let him have a go at WSB or GSB or what ever he wants to do

I'd welcome him into WSB, swiftly followed by calling him a cunt after the Oz GP where he ran over the suspension of Hill's Williams forcing Hill to retire and the german was handed the title.
