CHRIS WALKER, one of the UK’s top British Superbike and popular short circuit racer, Tommy Bridewell, are turning their attentions to off road racing by competing in the RHL Weston Beach Race in Weston-Super-Mare on 17th October 2010.

As a fond supporter of the annual off road event, it will be Chris Walker’s 10th time riding at the solo race.  He started his career as a top motorcross racer before turning his attention to tarmac and becoming a winner of British and World Superbike races.

Speaking on the upcoming event, Chris said: "I've done the Weston Beach Race around nine times, I think maybe more! I rode it the first time when I was 14 on a KX100 and I've been doing it ever since when it hasn't clashed with World or British Superbikes.”

Also taking part in this year’s event, is top local motorcycle rider, Tommy Bridewell.  As a short circuit rider, this will be Bridewell’s debut into off road racing.

As a self confessed spectator of the event, Bridewell said: “I'm really hoping it stays dry this year for my first time and hoping my fitness will hold me in good stead for a solid result at the end of the three ish hours.”

The winner of the 1999 Weston race and World Champion all rounder racer David (Knighter) Knight, has also been confirmed as a competitor at this years event.

The popular annual beach race event caters to off road racers of all ages and abilities.

S'funny. I thought I rode in the first ever Weston Beach race which was back in the mid 1980s. I think I even wote about it for one of those old fashioned magazine thingies that we used to have before VisorDown told us all print was dead. Thanks for the info guys, you are so modern it hurts).

However, it's probably just me be incredibly old with the attendant failing memory rather than you guys having a regard for accuracy akin to the great Robert Mugabe's regard for economic probity and human rights.

Hi guys , i have been in the bike scene for many years , badger Goss won a TV race in the sixties on a greeves built by me at Westbury motor cycles .I remember the Weston-Super-Mare races back in the eighties even though I had left the country by then , ran 4 wheelers on the beach and minis on the front boulevard , check it out because I also feel you are mistaken with only 10 years history . Colin Marks .

Jim, old bean, read it gain - s-l-o-w-l-y. You've confused yourself and. it would appear, Marksman, too.

We're not claiming it's only a decade old are we? Try starting at the bold copy in the heading. '28th running of the annual event...?' There's a clue there.

I think if you're more comfortable with it you should pen us a furious letter (in green ink) and get it all off your chest.

And back off with the Mugabe insults...
