Two-strokes to be phased out of MotoGP

Replacement class rumoured to be 600cc four-strokes. So, a bit like World Supersport then?

TWO-STROKES will be phased out of MotoGP and the new rules for the four-stroke class will be unveiled at the French MotoGP round this weekend.

Early reports suggest that the new class will comprise of four-stroke 600cc machines, taking MotoGP even closer to the World Superbike and domestic superbike series.

Needless to say, this change has not been popular with those involved in the sport. HRC appear to be the leading force in pushing the switch to four-stroke technology.

No new teams will be allowed to enter the series in its first year - to prevent teams jumping ship from Superbike classes and gaining an unfair early advantage.

The writing is on the wall for the end of the best racing class in the world.

It may not be a very eloquent retort but...fucking wankers. Yet another reason to hate Honda and everything they stand for...I'm off to buy myself an obsolete 250KTM

I thought it was just the 250's that they were thinking about changing?

i suppose we will see in the near future then

shame,it will up the costs for the privateer teams, but i think it will go full circle. some two strokes are already making a come back in motocross.

Oh, yeah.  That'll stop 'em.

Mr Marv

Thats shite!!

I love the sound of the 125's and 250's and the smell!! Why!!

If its not broke, dont fix it!

As long as they are light, fast and evenly matched, I don't care.  However, 600s will probably be heavier, slower and unevenly matched which will ruin the series.  I will definitely miss the smell and the sound of the 250s.

250's probably the purest form of bike racing

Sacrilege to take it away, and the smell OOHHH the smell.

Yup, it's exciting to watch 2-strokes, but lets face it in the next year or two you won't be able to buy a road legal 2-stroke bike anywhere on the plant.... emissions old boy!

It doesn't make sense for the manufacturers to keep pouring money into an obsolete/outlawed engine technology, does it?

AlmightyDutch

i get the developement thing but the racing is sooooo good while spoil it.

So whats replacing 125's? 250 4 stroke hence the new ZX250R rom Kwak?

So in another 10 years my RGV will be worth £20,000!!!!!!

2 strokes should stay! Would be a great loss if they were replaced.

Off topic, but now that the MotoGP class is 800's (less than before) how would a fully developed 500cc 2stroke match up now? with the right rider ofcourse - Would be interesting!

Marko

In the good ole days, when men were men and car drivers used electronic gizzmo's.

The 500's weighed in at 115kgs, then they raised the limit to 130kgs and then went to unleaded fuel which robbed them of their edge.

Could you imagine a 115kgs 190bhp stroker, my RGV weights 120kgs, with about a third of the power.

Trouble with four stokes is they are so bloody expensive to develop, the 250 class is pretty cheap when all said and done, could you imagine a 600 dropping a valve, it's a wrecked engine, i can see this putting paid to alot of privateer teams in 250 who do their own development and just when KTM & Aprillia are the dominating force in 250, another honda excuse to try and dominate the smaller classes.

what would be good is if they turned the 125 into 250's twin's and the 250'into 400's dont see much point in going to 600's as the lap times will be very, very close to the 800's . would be interesting to see what road bikes they could develop off the back of them.

Everybody gets to race what Honda wants to race, how long has their 600 been ready to go

But getting rid of 125's as well that's a no-no.

But at least most the manufacturers have a 250F to use if that's the way they chose to go.

Aye it's a shame. Love the sound, smell and feel of a 2T as it comes on song. Fuck em I say. I've went and bought 2 TZR 250 3XVs and I'm trying to breath life into a RD500 as well.

One day I'm going to get my paws on a TZ 250. Proper proper bike that.

I agree the sound and smell of the 2 strokes is the best. The best race i have seen in a long time was the wss race at assen this year but i don't want to see another 600 class, i like the fact that bsb & wsb are production based classes and the motogp classes are pure race breed machines.
