Toseland...confident of a podium at Jerez
|
MOTOGP rookie and double World Superbike champion James Toseland has told
the BBC that he is confident of getting on the podium at next weekend’s Jerez
GP.
Following his brilliant sixth place finish first time out in Qatar on the
Tech 3 Yamaha, Toseland was very candid about his chances whist being
interviewed on BBC Radio Sheffield.
He said: “The straights at Jerez are a bit shorter than Qatar so that means
I should be able to get closer to the Ducati and maybe get a podium.
"I've never raced there but I finished fifth in practice, so I'm confident."
The Tech 3 bike is basically a 2007 machine, the Sheffield ace has spent the
time since Qatar putting pressure on the Yamaha factory for a 2008 M1, but
the chances of that happening in time for Jerez are slim. He added: "After the
race I was pushing the Japanese to try and get the new one ready for Spain,
but I don't think that is going to happen.
"Because I am so close to the podium it would make a big difference to have
a bit more power beneath me. Yamaha are pleasantly surprised with how things
have gone so far and that will help me develop my relationship with both them
and Michelin.”
