AN IRISH motorcycle racer has been killed and a spectator seriously injured following a crash at the Skerries 100 road race.
Myles Byrne, 36, from south Dublin, was killed on Saturday during the Grand Final of the Skerries 100 meeting. The accident took place at 'Finnegan's Corner' named after racing legend Martin Finnegan, who was killed in a similar crash two years ago.
A male spectator suffered two broken legs after being struck by Byrne's bike.
Earlier in the day Byrne had taken victory in the 400cc class race.
In March this year, Visordown reported the news that a Senior Irish coroner had blasted the country's road racing safety record, calling for drastic measures to be introduced to improve both racer and spectator safety.
