Senior TT cancelled

The track just wasn’t quite right says McGuinness

John McGuinness

THE 2012 Isle of Man TT came to a close under miserable conditions.

The already postponed Senior race was cancelled for the first time in the event’s 105-year history. A course inspection by race control and rider representatives, including Honda TT Legend John McGuinness, deemed the race unsafe to go ahead due to poor weather conditions.

John McGuinness said: "I think it was the right decision to cancel the race today ... the track just wasn’t quite right ... I’m also really nervous about riding the big bikes in patchy and damp conditions. It’s disappointing for everybody but tomorrow’s another day and we’re already looking forward to next year."

After an AMAZING week, it's gutting that this didn't get to run, but safety first and all that.

After hearing that the likes of McGuinness, Lougher, and Cummins did a course inspection and still found the track to be dangerous, I think my own disappointment at the lack of a Senior TT has to give way to their better judgment. There will always come another TT in a year, and that's more of a sure thing than the safety of the riders was. Just glad nobody was injured due to a hasty decision.

there should be some sort of back up plan for this scenario...

what about having a fleet of wet tyre shod ktm dukes!?!

Road racing Capital of the world - no more.

The IOM/TT has allowed itself to become just another corporate bitch. The big money teams now call the shots. If the "factory" riders like Mcguiness dont want to play, fine let someone else have a go.

This is the end of the TT - people go to watch road racing, not to see a bunch of overpaid prima donnas have a hissy fit cos its wet, if there's no racing ,,,people wont go

Shame on McGuiness, Martin et al for the pricks you are

What would Joey have said,,,,

Couldn't agree more. Some kind of motorcycle orientated event should be on standby when the racing is cancelled due to Mona's cloak! There are plenty of exotic motorcycles on the Island we would like to see in action. Even a parade lap would be better than a few rich b'@@@@@@'s in the Subaru cars.....

Aki
I bet you the Dunlop brothers weren't to bothered by the conditions? :-D

Posted: 12/06/2012 at 13:26

Oh so easy to sit on our arses complaining about riders not being prepared to go out in the senior in less than ideal conditions.
The riders maust have the last say, which i believe they did.

To call them prima donnas is just utter bollocks....has "George" ever even been to the TT, let alone met McGuiness et al??? somehow doubt it.

I do however have some sympathy with the view that there should be a back up plan, perhaps just running the Senior on the wednesday would give enough leeway in terms of time.
(though lets not forget that the Lightweight 650's did race)

I have been going to the tt for 30 yrs, often just for the day, so its not the first time i have missed the racing. It is just the chance you take.
Unsurprisinngly I think you will find far fewer complaints about this from regaular visitors to the TT, rather than the usual witless armchair computer critics.

George Watson and Jimnwednyuk.

Grow the fuck up. Jesus, could you be anymore witless? You are frankly, an embarrassment.

George Watson

An ignorant and idiotic statement.

The most likely thing to end the TT would fatalities due to racing in unsafe foreseen conditions.

@ George Watson and sidekick

If you were here you would know that there was a race held on the final day. It was the first super twins light weight race and it was great to see a new class so well represented. I totally agree with the decision to cancel the superbikes, due to their power and out right speed. Riding a normal bike around here at speed is no joke, as the 5 visitor fatalities should attest. Riding at over 200 mph in places into uncertain conditions is obviously a ridiculous thing to expect.

I look forward to seeing you on the island next year for the TT, Although with an attitude like yours, it won't be long before they scrape you into a helicopter for your final ride to Hospital.

"grow the feck up",,, - 56 year old club racer- yes I have been to the island - aiming to do the manx and a bit of water wont stop me.

What difference would it make if I had met Mcguiness - does having known Joey in that case make my comments more valid in your eyes,,,, You are the one talking bollocks,,,

Ignorant, idiotic,,, is that the best you can do. The TT has now become a big money sport and due to the money riders are taking huge risks around there - its now short circuit stuff and that will prove more deadly than a little bit of rain,,,

Witless, embarassment - you sir, are the type of witless fool who will sit there and take this kind of crap - Powerfull teams deciding when to race and only electing to do so if there guy is in with a shout.

What of the fans who paid good money to see a shamefull "no-show".

I refer you to my earlier comment - What would Joey have said ? - probably laughed  his arse off

George Watson

The decision not to race was not taken lightly and was supported by the competitors.

You seem to be contradicting yourself here,
Competitors taking huge risks for money - in fact they decided not to take a huge risk.
Powerful teams deciding when to race and only electing to do so if their guy is in with a shout - JMG was more than in with a shout and involved in the decision not to race.
Come on get your facts right instead of spouting nonsensical garbage.

I'm sure virtually all fans would rather have no race than the realistic possibility of a serious incident during an unsafe race, you only need to be present at something like this to know its simply not worth it.

I know plenty who aim to do the MGP - not so many who actually do though, I expect you're another talker, lets hope so or Marks prediction may be accurate.

Just claiming to have known/spoken to someone does NOT qualify you to make statements on their behalf.

Slippery manhole covers, white lines that become the equivelent of ice and roads that we all know are slippery as hell after a dry spell, the clerk of the course has been deputy clerk for the last two years so has a bit of an idea what is safe .I for one cant imagine how to cope with those sort of speeds in the wet ,how many" tear off"s"  would be enough ?

I am gutted ,unable to go so recorded it all and had intended to save the best till last.. on the upside there is next year .I"m with Pagik on this one.....

Cheer up  guys maybe it"ll rain on Sunday and we"ll see no46 on the podium at Silverstone.

"What of the fans who paid good money to see a shamefull "no-show"."

i, and a number of my family, were among those fans, both this year and last.(when the senior was delayed)
We were over on the Wednesday this year and the races were delayed by the weather. We therefore spent a pleasant morning in Douglas and around the paddock, meeting Connor Cummins, Mamola, et al.

The delayed start meant we missed the "main" race of the day (in our view anyway) the second supersport 600. Disapointed? yes a little, but by no means did it ruin the experience that is the TT. Its just the chance you accept when you book up to go.

"What would Joey have said?" No idea. Whilst i was lucky enough to have met him on several occassions i would never pretend to represent his thoughts.

Given what McGuinness, Martin, Lougher and the rest have brought to the TT over the years, and the risks they have taken/injuries sustained, to call some of them "pricks" only confirms that George is indeed an utter tosser. (Manx GP wannabe, at 56, probabaly sums him up.........)

George Watson...

There is only one 'prick' associated with this thread and it certainly isn't John McGuinness. The actual safety inspection was carried out by 'Milky' Quayle (Riders Liaison Officer for IoMTT) Connor Cummins, John McGuinness, John Barton (2nd Rider Liaison Officer for IoMTT) Phillip McCallen (won 4 TT's in one week) and others. They did not get it wrong.

The whole of the Laurel Bank Glen Helen section was damp and slippery because of the torrential rain throughout Thursday and there was water running down the hill from the high ground above Glen Helen. Some sick 'arsehole' also poured diesel on the hill from Glen Helen up thro' Sarah's Cottage and on toward Lambfell on the Thursday night. This along with the damp road may well have been a contributing factor to the cancellation.

So George before you spout your 'shite' get your facts right.

BTW I know about the diesel because I reported it to the police on Thursday night before someone got seriously hurt or worse.
