LEON Haslam is flying out to Magny Cours on Wednesday and could end up riding the injured Riyuichi Kiyonari's WSB Honda in the penultimate race of the world series this weekend.
Haslam has been in talks with the Hannspree Ten Kate squad after Kiyonari crashed while testing on Friday. The former double British Superbike champion has broken his left collarbone and was immediately flown back to Japan to have the injury plated.
The severity of the injury means that Kiyo will be forced to miss the next round of the WSB championship, according to the team there is a chance he could be back for the final round of the year at Portimao in four weeks time.
Haslam's move to ride the bike is being under close wraps, but it makes sense. With the sideburned star winning five from the last seven BSB races and having held a secret meeting with Stiggy Honda WSB squad on Saturday evening for a possible full-time ride in WSB next year he's eager to make the move from BSB to WSB for the second time. The last time Haslam contested the season was with the Koji Renegade Ducati squad in 2004.
