Judd Greedy Crash Visordown Motorcycle News
One of the bikes caught fire during the crash

A MOTORCYCLE racer has been killed and another injured during a race at an Australian Superbikes meet.

The incident took place at Symmons Plains Raceway near Launceston, Tasmania, during the second round of the domestic Superbikes championships.

Judd Greedy, 28, died yesterday after crashing out while leading the second round of the championship.

Greedy was hit by two riders in the middle of the pack who were unable to avoid the fallen rider, one of the bikes exploding in a fireball as its fuel tank ignited on impact.

Racing was stopped for the day following the fatal crash.

RIP

Dont fancy those concrete barriers or steel armco's much. Makes Darley Moore look safe that does.

Why we have bikes racing at Simmons Plains is a mystery to me. The MotoGP guys would never race there so why are our Australian Superbikes??? It is not a safe track for bike racing, in my opinion anyway. Racing is dangerous, Yes, but why make it more so than it naturally is by racing at tracks with confined dimensions in certain areas and run-offs that are totally inadequate?

RIP fella.  Sad day.

Holy shit! Look at that track, the run off is about a 2m!!! I wouldn't do a track day on that track. What the hell are superbikes doing there. I hope that this tragedy brings about some improvements.

...and no...I would get rid of Macu and IOM or any of the road circuits. That is not the point. People aren't forced to ride them and you don't have a pack or anywhere near the overtakes. If you want to compete in SBK then you have to ride the circuits that the races are on. Australia isn't short of space, why have such tight tracks? It doesn't make the racing any better.

Theer are needlessly dangerous tracks out there and it's a reminder that the job of improving rider safety isn't yet done. Terrible loss to Judd's family and friends and to all of us who appreciated his skills.

A sad loss to his family and motorcycling in general. If I go back and look at that picture I am amazed at the track design (or lack of it!). It is a wonder that more people are not killed there. Such a waste of a young life.
