Repsol sign 15-year old girl

15. Female. Faster than you.

PROMISING 15-year old female racer, María Herrera, from Toledo, Spain has been picked by Repsol to join their 2012 line-up.

Herrera won the Campeona del Mediterráneo PreGP in 2011 and will debut in the Moto3 class of the Spanish CEV championship as part of a team that includes Álex Márquez, younger brother to Moto2 runner up Marc Márquez. Herrera was also picked to run in this year's Red Bull Rookies cup - the only female to be selected.

Herrera surprised Moto3 teams in Albacete by setting impressive lap times in the end of season tests on a Honda NSF250R, the bike she will ride in 2012. The current plan is for Herrera to step up to the MotoGP Moto3 class in 2013.

MotoGP rider Alvaro Bautista has acted as a mentor to Herrera, tipping her for a future in the top flight.

The complete 2012 Repsol lineup is Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa (MotoGP), Marc Márquez (Moto2), Maverick Viñales, Miguel Oliveira, Álex Rins (Moto3), Álex Márquez, María Herrera, Francesco Bagnaia and Lorenzo Baldassarri (CEV).
