TECH 3 Yamaha team boss Herve Poncharal has been more vocal about James Toseland's MotoGP performances so far in 2009.
Speaking before the French round on the championship at Le Mans on May 17, the French boss said his team were aiming for its first podium and its first front row spot on the grid in qualifying.
But, keeping the pressure on Toseland to up his game, Poncharal said on the recent Jerez round where the Brit finished a lowly 13th: “With the same tyres for everybody, all the riders were always going to be close together. We knew that it would not be easy to be up at the front with that group.
“On James’ side, it’s still difficult. I was hoping for an easier race. I think that his pace was good enough for the top ten, but when you qualify so far down then it’s always hard. Qualifying will be even more important this year than it has ever been.
“We’re really hoping that James can catch up. He’s trying really hard and we would like to see some sun on that side too.”
