MotoGP: Stoner's wrist causes serious concern

Reigning world champ's title hopes in tatters after left wrist troubles return

Posted: 1 September 2008
by Mike Scott

CASEY STONER'S hopes of retaining the MotoGP world title look seriously blunted by the return of an old injury – to the scaphoid bone in his left wrist.

Damage to this troublesome and hard-to-heal little bone is something racers dread, because of the usual long recovery time. Stoner had suffered pain on Friday, and a visit to the Clinica Mobile revealed that a scaphoid fracture he suffered in 2003 appeared to have re-opened. But the injury didn’t stop Stoner, his wrist heavily strapped, from taking pole position, his seventh in a row.

“It’s a really strange one, because there’s been no impact on it,” said Stoner after the first day of practice. He tumbled at the last two races – Laguna Seca and Brno – but on neither occasion had he hit his wrist. I was just adjusting my back protector this afternoon when I felt some pain. It got worse as the session went on,” he explained.

He attended the clinic, and said: “I couldn’t believe it when they showed me the X-ray.”

Just pushing to hard i guess..   Anyone else think his missus looks a right misery?...

Mr Marv

IN all seriousness i think that stoner struggles to battle with rossi. He fears having to work hard to get the win, which anyone would. Vale is a hard guy to battle with.

He knows the Ducati is fast so tries to get a good lead that he knows will take Rossi 15-20 laps to catch up with. This way he only has to race Vale for a few laps.

He's pushing too hard to get this lead, therefore falling off.

Thats my take on it.

As any racer will tell you 'to finish first, fisrt you have to finish' & yes his missus does look a misery, but I'd still give her one

Ever bust your scaphoid? It's a twat of a little bone with poor blood supply that holds onto lots of ligaments for you and helps you grip. Bad breaks can be hard to, or never, heal*.
If you ain't raced or ain't broken it, or like some of us have done and raced with a broken scaphoid you don't really know what your talking about.

*Wales & Lions scrum-half Rob Howley had to hang up his boots because of a 'non-union' in his right scaphoid.

DB Racing God says:

Pulling your wire too often, like some of you have done, has the same effect. Racing God, quit racing to your pants and things will heal nicely.

+1

It bloody hurts, not when you break it funnily enough but for years later.

sometimes my wrist just swell up and causes pain for no reason [just aswell its my left or my sex life would be over].
