MotoGP: Spies could replace Toseland in 2010

Toseland's place under threat as Tech 3 team boss courts WSB front runner

TECH 3 YAMAHA team supremo Herve Poncharal has said he's keen to have former AMA Superbike champ-turned-WSB front runner Ben Spies in his MotoGP line up for 2010.

Poncharal has been impressed by Spies undoubted riding talent and has openly stated he wants the Texan in next year's Tech 3 team. Speaking on the subject Poncharal said:

"It is obvious that he is an exceptional pilot. I wish to have it in 2010! We had already discussed this with him last year, just like we did with Simoncelli. Ben will be in MotoGP in 2010, it obvious to me and I hope it will be with Tech 3. He will bring new blood to the category. He's part of the Yamaha family."

Poncharal has also been equally outspoken regarding James Toseland's poor performances over the last two years.

"James must roll. There are three Yamahas in the first four in MotoGP. James is sixteenth. He must arrive in Japan with ambitions. It is necessary that he makes the top 10."

Could the writing be on the wall for our British hero?

Ducati Pete

WSB will be great with JT and CE back.

Spies and Simoncelli at Tech 3 next year.

John..
If JT doesn't improve or at least beat his team mate this year he doesn't deserve to have a good ride in MOTO GP

Spies to Moto GP mmm Think of last year has everyone forgotten the comment's about Toseland !! Moto GP lads dont like to get Physical do they. Let's just watch the season unfold. 1 GP does not a season make!

Well Id like to know what he's actually saying??....Either this has been translated online from French or he's losing his mind

But yeah, JT needs to pull his socks up...Theres plenty of good young talent in 250's, Moto GP and WSB, who would covet a ride on the M1.

Blowsland and Spies should just swap spots ... now.

Ilike2thinkso

You're far too pessimistic. Fatgit has it about right, there are plenty of races to go yet. Lets get behind him instead of sanctioning a witch hunt already!!

Yes Spies is a bloody good racer, but JT had to win WSB twice before getting his chance, Spies hasn't won it once yet, though I have no doubt he is plenty good enough.

If Spies has any brains he'll stay out of MotpGP for now. It's a waste of time, and a good career.

I'm a fan of JT's, but I can't help but think he has lost too much confidence, he's almost trying too hard, much as Leon Haslam did early on last year in BSB, and overcooking it. If he keeps going this way I can't help but think it'll be Edwards & Spies in Moto GP next year - I hope not. Hopefully JT will regroup and put in the performances he needs.

I also think Spies will be getting seriously looked at by the factory teams, and will be a little surprised if he ends up in a satellite team next year. When's Rossi retiring? I personally think that is where Spies will end up....

Sorry folks; my fault. Rushed article with Herve's comments transalted through Babelfish. I forgot to re-read.

Now amended.
