Rossi now has a 50-point lead after Brno

VALENTINO ROSSI won the Czech Grand Prix at Brno today, after arch rival and reigning world champion Casey Stoner crashed out while leading the 22-lap race.

The Australian looked on course for victory, after leading the race from the first turn but Stoner eventually succumbed to relentless pressure from Rossi, losing the front of his Ducati Desmosedici midway through one of Brno's faster right-handers on lap 16. He escaped uninjured.

Rossi went on to win the race by almost 18 seconds from second-placed rider, Toni Elias. The D'Antin Ducati ace startled many with his aggressive performance, as the stylish Spanish racer carved his way through the field.

The final place on the podium was claimed by Rizla Suzuki's Loris Capirossi.

Judging by the pace of the GP, Brno's new surface seems to have worked; Valentino's overall race win was 17 seconds faster than last year's winning time.

Rossi now leads Casey Stoner in the championship race by 50 points.
