FORMER WORLD Champion Valentino Rossi has tested two forms of Yamaha's prototype 2008 M1 at Motegi, setting the fourth fastest time.

Rizla Suzuki's Chris Vermuelen went quickest - 0.4 secs quicker than the Italian.

Sources say, the brace of machines Rossi tested had different types of chassis - one stiffer than the other. Apparently Rossi preferred the more flexible version as he felt some vibration on the stiffer machine.

The team are aiming to start work on engine development in the near future.
